GizmoWatch alternatives

The Gizmo is a good kids watch-phone. This page is for parents working out whether they are paying for the phone part at all.

Gizmo searches split into two groups: people comparing kids watches, and people who have had one for a year and noticed the line on the bill. This page is mostly for the second group.

The watch is the cheap part

The $10 line never ends

Two years of Gizmo service is $240 on top of the $149.99 watch. Nothing is wrong with that — it is a phone plan — but it is worth seeing written down.

Charging every few days

Verizon lists the GizmoWatch 3 at up to 3.6 days of battery and the GizmoWatch 4 at up to 36 hours. A flat watch reports nothing.

It is tied to Verizon

The service is a Verizon line. Leaving Verizon means dealing with the watch too.

They never actually call

Plenty of families find the calling goes unused after the novelty. If the map is the only screen you open, that is the product you needed.

Switching from a Gizmo

Is Kin One cheaper than a GizmoWatch?

Over two years, yes — about $129.99 against roughly $389.99 before tax. It also does less. Both of those things are true.

Can my child call me on Kin One?

No. There is no microphone, no speaker and no dialler. If that matters, the Gizmo is the better purchase.

Does Kin One have an SOS button?

No. The Gizmo does. We will not pretend otherwise.

Does Kin need a Verizon account?

No. The SIM is inside and the data is paid for in the purchase.

What does Kin actually do?

Live location, arrive and leave alerts at places you name, on one family map.
