GPS versus Bluetooth trackers
Two different radios, two different jobs. A short guide to what “tracker” means on a product box.
Retail listings say “GPS” when they mean “finder.” This page separates the satellite fix from the network that carries it, then stops. It is not a shopping list.
The words on the box
GPS is not a delivery network
Satellites tell a chip its coordinates. Something still has to send those coordinates to your phone.
Bluetooth is a neighbourhood
Tags whisper to phones within a few metres, then hitch a ride on whoever is around. No crowd, no update.
Cellular is a phone call from the device
A SIM on a 4G network can upload a point without borrowing a stranger’s handset.
Wi-Fi is a backup indoors
Some locators, including Kin One, can fall back to Wi-Fi positioning inside buildings. That is still not Bluetooth tagging.

Add it to your family
Scan the code in the Kin app and name who wears it. Authorised family members see the same map on their own phones.
View location
Open the app for whether they arrived or left a place you named. Follow mode is a live position only while you are looking.
Create alerts
Draw a safe place — home, school, the yard. One nudge on arrival, one on leaving. Nothing in between.

Do GPS trackers use Bluetooth?
Some gadgets include both. The product class that locates a child in a field is cellular GPS, not a Bluetooth tag.
Which is more accurate?
Outdoors, a GPS fix is usually the better coordinate. Bluetooth is “near this other phone.” Indoors, Wi-Fi or Bluetooth may beat a weak satellite view.
Which lasts longer on a battery?
Bluetooth tags often last a year. Cellular radios cost more power. Kin One is designed for about a month in ordinary use; follow mode uses more.
Is Find My a GPS network?
Find My for AirTag is a crowd of Apple devices hearing Bluetooth. iPhones themselves use GPS; the tag does not report like a child locator.
Can I use both?
Yes. Tags on luggage, a cellular wearable on a child or a dog. Different jobs.
Does Kin One work without Bluetooth?
Location to the family is GPS and 4G, with Wi-Fi positioning indoors. It is not an AirTag-style finder.
